The impact of this scheme:

  • The scheme includes 654 Safe Places in Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Birmingham.
  • In 2016-2017, we facilitated face to face training with 293 disabled people and older people in staying safe in the community and how to use the scheme.
  • In 2016-2017 we gave out 1906 cards to people using the scheme.
  • Feedback from individuals has shown that when people know where the local Safe Places are they feel more confident to go out, knowing that if they need help, there will be a Safe Place local to them.
  • Feedback from people with learning disabilities shows that the majority of them have experienced bullying and being picked on. This has meant that they feel unsafe when out and about. This scheme makes people feel more confident to go out as they know where their local Safe Place is.

It costs £70.00 to train 10 people with learning disabilities about how to stay safe in the local area and support them to know how to use the scheme.

It costs £150 to recruit and support 10 Safe Places in the local community.
