Changing Our Lives uses the arts as a vehicle to highlight and challenge societal prejudices and perceptions of disability and mental health that see the individual as ‘deficient’ or ‘less than’. We utilise a range of different art forms including drawing, painting, art installations, photography, poetry and the spoken word, music and drama. As our work is led by the people we work with, we match these art forms to the issues we want to tackle and the people we are working with.
We also work with many individuals for whom art can be a form of self-expression and communication, such as people who are non-verbal and use alternative means of communication or individuals who use words but may struggle to express complex issues and prefer to communicate the issue visually.
